Foursquare Brings in New Executive to Lead People and Culture Efforts

This week, Foursquare announced that Kit Krugman joined its executive team as the new Senior Vice President, People and Culture.

Once best known for inventing the social “check-in”, Foursquare now empowers brands to make data-driven decisions, in particular around location. Lately, the company has been trying to make its geospatial data more accessible and more widely used in local decision-making.

To this end, earlier this year, Foursquare launched “The Foursquare Graph” as a tool that allows companies to derive faster and more up-to-date location insights.

Krugman’s primary mission at Foursquare will be to advance the company’s organizational culture and commitment to diversity and inclusion. The company seems to have concluded that it needs to invest in its culture to achieve its vision of “revolutionizing the geospatial industry.”

At least this is what we infer from the following statement from the company’s CEO.

A Fresh Perspective

“Kit brings a fresh perspective on the people function and an inventive approach to designing internal business structures and team experiences,” said company President and CEO Gary Little.

“As Foursquare continues to grow, Kit will play an essential role in cultivating our people and culture to unlock our vision of revolutionizing the geospatial industry through our platform strategy.”

Krugman has more than 10 years of experience leading organizational transformations at tech companies, startups, and non-profits. Krugman specializes in marrying traditional HR practices with organizational psychology to create people strategies that drive business results. Before joining Foursquare, Krugman was a partner and managing director of co:collective, a strategic transformation consultancy where she spent nearly a decade.

Foursquare confirmed that Krugman is taking on a newly created role at the company. She is not replacing a departing people and culture executive.

Before Krugman’s arrival, the HR and legal function was the responsibility of Marc Ellenbogen. Ellenbogen remains on the company’s executive team as the company’s Chief Legal Officer.
